Summertime Means Farmers Market Time

One of my favorite things about living in a big city and summertime is all the farmers and open air markets. Being able to wander through all the markets, finding treasures, and interacting with the local farmers is such a fun way to spend summer days. In my opinion, one of the best in the city is SOWA. It pretty much offers it all..open air market, thrift stores, farmers market, and food trucks. This year there apparently was some kind of dispute between the owner of SOWA and the person who owns the land it’s held on, which created a split. So, now there is SOWA and the South End Open Market, which are literally two blocks from each other. I don’t quite understand it all, but there is still all the goodies from previous years. May 1st was the opening day, and Alyssa and I had to be there. Unfortunately, it was raining, so it was a bit icky and there wasn’t everything open, but we still managed to have a great time and found some treasures. For myself, I got a pair of earrings and a necklace. There also was a vendor who took dinosaur toys, hollowed them out, and filled them with plants. While I didn’t get one from her (four plants if enough, I think), I did get a picture, because I loved the idea and knew Cade would too.

At a later date..of course, Alyssa and I have already made it back..she found a plant for herself. She’s been eyeing plants for awhile now to bring some life into her apartment and fell in love with the guy below instantly. So happy she was able to find the perfect addition for her space.

Do you have a favorite farmers market you’ve found in your area? What’s your favorite vendor and treasures? I’d love to hear about your market adventures.

  1. Yay dinosaur treasures!

I agree, Farmer’s Markets/Open-air Markets are a lot of fun and depending on the specific vendor the prices aren’t bad at all.

There are apparently a lot of Farmer’s Markets in Bozeman, in fact one started up near where I work just yesterday!

    1. Ooh, I might have to add that to my list of things to while I’m out there. I love just looking through markets and seeing what options there are in other areas. Let me know if you end up going!

      1. It runs from 5-8pm on Tuesdays. I’m not sure where it is *exactly* but I know it’s really popular as there was a ton of traffic and the street I park on had no spaces left on it by 5:15pm.

        1. That’s exciting! I like the time too. So many of the markets here close up by 6pm. Hard to make it when you work during the day.

  2. Oh my, that is a pretty necklace!

As you know, I have no markets. 🙁 Which is not entirely accurate. There is one in town. But I never could remember to go to it, so I gave up and joined a CSA. That was likely a mistake as I don’t use the stuff fast enough, and it goes to waste. It helps support a farm though, so yay that!

    I love the dinosaurs!
