Harvard Farmers’ Market

One of the many things that I’m enjoying about living in a bigger city is the access to Farmers’ Markets. Conveniently, Harvard has their own Farmers’ Market, making it super easy for us to add it to our weekly routine. The first few times we went to the Farmers’ Market, we just went as a treat to see what goodies they had and grab a couple of things. Now that we’ve been here for a few months, I’ve been able to make this a routine and go every week to get our veggies and anything else that we can. I love being able to 1) support local farmers, 2) have food that is fresh and natural, and 3) promote more eco-friendly eating habits. Side note: I recently read The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which kinda changed/solidified how I view food and being conscious of what we’re eating. Anyways, I won’t go into a huge rant/speech about my views. If you’re interested, talk to me in the comments or check out the book. (Beware, it might scare you about what you put into your body on a daily basis!)

Anyways, the Farmers’ Market is awesome! They have your typical fruits and veggies and so much more. Here’s a list of some of the items that are staples:
Fish, Chicken, Beef, and Eggs
Taza Chocolate (local chocolate factory)
Baked goods
Homemade popsicles
Jams, Honey, and Syrup
Pasta and Sauces

This fall, they added items like cider and pumpkins, which I am always a sucker for. Cider is one of my favorite fall drinks, and put pumpkin in anything and I’m on board.

They always have food trucks, as well, which pull us in now and again. So far, we’ve had sandwiches from Whole Foods and Vietnamese food from Bon Me…both of which have been amazing!

Here are some pictures of the typical set up:

Here are pictures of those homemade popsicles that I listed above. We’ve gotten them a couple times, and they are delicious! They even had fall flavors (coffee and pumpkin), which we had to get a couple weeks ago. (Like I said, complete sucker for fall foods!)20140812_142340 20140812_141252

Oh, and Union Square Donuts comes every week. I’ve never seen a week where they didn’t sell out. One week we were able to get there right as the market opened and scored a bacon maple donut…A.MAZING..enough said.

If you’re interested in checking them out, here’s the market’s website.
